Good Enough After All

Thank-you for all your supportive comments yesterday. You really made me feel better.

I felt even better when I received an email from York a short time later offering me a full-time spot with a research and graduate assistantship and a scholarship! I hadn’t really thought about doing it full-time, but this changes everything. The scholarship will cover the tuition and the assistantships will cover the childcare, and then some. Plus, I think Cakes would only benefit from a few days of nursery school each week. It is getting harder to keep her stimulated at home. I also think it will be good for me.

This will postpone our baby-making plans by a few months, but that’s OK. This way, I’ll finish the program in August 2008 and will finally (finally!) be done. It would not be easy slugging away at it part-time for the next four years with a toddler as well as a newborn.

So friends, I am happy, happy, happy. I hope the U of T offer comes through in April so I can turn it down.

And Cakes would love a few days at school...you're right it does get a little harder to keep them stimulated at home!

Fantastic! Full-time is REALLY the way to go for grad school - you'll get so much more out of the experience that way. Congratulations!

Congratulations!

I know I wouldn't be doing grad school if it weren't for the tuition waiver and extra stipend! Doesn't pay for much, but it sure changes the equation.

I wanted to say before that it's so bizarre U of T was deferring a part-timer because of numbers--they're more likely to have full-time students and those are the ones they really need to worry about in terms of finances. But how nice to not need them!

Congratulations to you! That's wonderful!
I'm thinking the same thing about my baby needing a bit more outside stimulation too, so I think your Cakes will have a fantastic time at nursery school.

Wow! That is so great! It's nice to have it over in a year - in the grand scheme of things, that is really little time. It will go really fast and it will feel so good to have it all finished. Wow! And with bells on and everything! I am so pleased for you.

And truly, I am of the opinion that at least part time daycare is a good thing, to be honest. It gives everyone involved some time to do their own thing and have a bit of independence.

Well Metro Mama, I've seen you around, but I did not know you were a Canadian girl! I would have been knocking at your door a whole lot sooner.

I'm fairly stalkerish that way...just giving you a heads up!

Thanks for visiting me, and I'll be back...said in my best Arnold voice.

I can attest to how difficult it is to get the damn thing done once you have a baby.
Full-time is the way to go.

Metro....I have been off line since the big storm on Wednesday...

Funny how a slap in the face (UofT) can turn around and be a pat on the back.

I am happy you are content with the way things turned out. You deserve much and you will get it.
