Stitch 'n' Bitch

While we're on the subject of needles...

Today my friend Knitrovert held Stitch ‘n’ Bitch at my place. Several of my former colleagues came over bearing baked goods and knitting needles. I must admit, I did all bitching and no stitching. Shannon taught me to knit at her inaugural S&B and I did spend an entire winter making a scarf for BP. I was proud to have finished it, but it ended up being really wide and stiff, and itchy as hell. I haven’t seen him wear it once. Since then, I’m done with knitting. Fuck knitting. However, I do like to admire the projects of others. I wish I were more crafty.

Lucky for me, I have a mother who adores knitting and crocheting for Cakes. Here is some of her handiwork:

Great stuff, isn't it?

Knitrovert has amazing work too. And! She makes personalized beer cozies. How cool is that.

Ohh, too bad you are done with knitting. We have a pretty hot knitting community in Toronto. There's a TTC Knit Along happening Oct. 28th....

DO I sould like I am trying to recruit you into a cult?

Sounds like fun. I am the least crafty person you'll everrrr meet. But I always wanted to learn to knit.

Great pics of Cakes :)

knitting takes too long for me. i'm an impatient, want-it-done-now kind of girl.

(although I can knit and I pull out the needles once or twice a year)

Why does knitting seem so cool to me now? How OLD am I? I was thinking I should sign up for a class at The Knit Cafe on Queen West. I doubt that I could make anything quite as beautiful as what is being presented by your supermodel.

I've got some lovely knitted things, but I've never used them because they never seem to fit right - or else they fit just fine, but have all kinds of strangling hazards on them...

That yellow and blue one is my favourite. So darling. And I love Cakes' tough-guy expression, too, like "You wanna start something?"

I love the hat and cardigan set! I'm a knitter, but a very basic knitter.

The most complex thing I've done is a baby halter top for Her Bad Mother's Wonderbaby. (And I don't know if it ever fit her.)

My knitting abilities have not advanced past straight lines, and crocheting I can make chains but that's about it. My parents still have all the hand made outfits that my grandmothers and family made for me as a kid and I'll definitely be using them when we have kids. Adorable!

Omigosh, your mom is AWESOME. Those clothes are ADORABLE!!!! And, cakes is TOO MUCH! She's so precious! I've been working on the same darn blanket for months. the monkey sleeps with a little blanket I knitted for her while I was pregnant. But, she needs a bigger one, and it's taking me for-friggin-ever!

Ah, that's nice! I always see these great designs for babies and have the urge to learn to knit, but then realistically, she'd be about ten before I finished anything. And my mom, who knits like a fiend, refuses to take a piece of Pumpkinpie's clothing to size to, so she keeps wasting her time knitting things that don't get worn. The waster of her talents and time and energy just makes me crazy every time. How great that Cakes can actually wear her grandma's lovingly made goodies!
